What is Forma?

Forma is a radio frequency skin tightening treatment. It is a non-invasive procedure that uses heat and radiofrequency to increase collagen production both in the face and body resulting in lifting, tightening, and contouring your skin, almost like ironing your skin – in turn helping reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles – and aiding recovery from age spots and hyperpigmentation. It’s Saturday and I’m walking around with a smile on my face and a spring in my step. Not because I’ve managed to get to the gym this morning or that I avoided that extra glass of wine last night (although that helps). It’s because I had a brand new treatment – HarmonyCa – and I can see the amazing results!

We are so excited to finally launch this revolutionary new generation treatment at Look Lovely London, and make it available to our patients. It’s literally like no other treatment in the industry!

What is HarmonyCa?

HarmonyCa is a new hybrid biostimulator filler. So to put the medical jargon to one side, this means it has 2 magical components. It contains a fantastic filler that will instantly lift and gently contour, and then also calcium ( calcium hydroxyapatite). Calcium promotes your skin to produce collagen which improves elasticity and firmness, reducing creepiness and fine lines.

You’ll see instant volumisation and shaping to your face, and on-top of this your skin will be stimulated to start producing new collagen. The treatment will cause long-term lifting through collagen production, and can last for 18 months or more. The real sweet point after this treatment is around the 3-month mark. The filler will still be looking fabulous but then your skin will start to glow and have an improved ‘snap-back’ effect with more elasticity and tightness. So almost like a mini facelift. I’ve noticed an improvement in my skin in only a week!

So why did I go for HarmonyCa?

As I approach my mid 40’s I’ve noticed my face slimming, with loss of volume below my cheeks. This depressed area has made me look a little hollow and more aged. I sometimes look in the mirror and just want to lift my skin up to restore the position of where the tissues in my face used to be – taut and tight like in my 30’s! I’ve also noticed – shock horror- some early jowling around my jaw line and hollowing either side of my chin. This is called the pre-jowl sulci area. As HarmonyCa targets the cheeks, lower face and jowls, it felt like the perfect treatment for me.

I also noticed my skin feeling less smooth, and more sallow, so I knew I needed a collagen boost. These changes in my face are all due to the fact I’m losing 2% of collagen in my skin a year as I age. So, I was delighted to jump on the couch and let Hannah do her magic with HarmonyCa.

What happens during a HarmonyCa treatment?

Hannah cleaned my skin and marked up 4 key points on my face where the product needed to go, to help create the lift I needed and to tackle the grooves developing. HarmonyCa only gets placed in the cheeks, lateral parts of your face and around your chin. This keeps the treatment very safe, staying away from important vessels but will be the most effective areas to treat to tighten the skin and give me the contouring I need.

No needles are needed, once the cannula is in place. As I’m a wimp with pain, I’d rate the discomfort level around 6/10. I could feel a sharp prink at each entry point, which only lasted a few seconds. There was a total of 8 for the whole treatment.

I had 2 syringes placed either side of my face and it took about 15 minutes. You may need more depending on the grooves present and laxity of your skin. I had the treatment during the day in a break and then continued to see my own patients. There really is no down time and the small needle points healed within 2 days. I had no bruising and minimal swelling. I did feel some tenderness the evening of the treatment, but I knew this was the stimulator kicking in.

How did I feel after my HarmonyCa treatment?

I felt instantly lifted, which no other biostimulator offers. However, the true results will be present 3-4 months from now as the calcium in this product starts to stimulate my own elastins and fibroblasts ( little components present in all our skin) to make collagen.

So this treatment, really just keeps on giving! It’s made by a top-pharmaceutical company called Allergan – backed by some robust clinical trials around safety. The risk of vascular complications is far less than standard fillers, but the results can be far better.

I feel like I’ve found my new wonder treatment. I can see myself needing a lot less dermal filler, as this product has the Hyalouronic acid (filler) to give me the immediate lift, but also will stimulate my own collagen. It’s more natural and also gives me the lift, and a little scaffolding in the face as I age. Even after 1 week I feel my skin feels firmer. I’d definitely consider getting a top-up treatment in 6 months, but likely to only need 1 syringe so I can build on and maintain my results.

Who says you need to go under the knife? Non Surgical Facelift

My facelift – Antonia’s Story

“As a long standing patient of Look Lovely London – and well into my 40s, I’ve been receiving small amounts of filler around the smile lines and regular anti wrinkle injections for a few years now. I noticed more recently that there has been a real, and not so subtle change in the position of my facial structures. My jowls have become more pronounced, and my cheeks and temples more sunken. I just felt I looked tired no matter how well I slept and had lost a bit of sparkle and confidence in my looks.

I was recommended by the amazing front of house team to see Dr Nick. After an in-depth consultation he suggested that I undergo the FaceLift treatment with dermal filler. He assured me it would provide lifting and recontouring without adding lots of volume – which was music to my ears as it was a concern of mine, and have seen in the media and through some friends that poorly placed filler can definitely make you look puffy. I wanted the transition of my face before and after treatment to be seamless and discreet and I was not disappointed.

I had a total of 5ml of Hyaluronic Acid placed – 2mls across the cheeks and 2mls across the jaw. A 5th ml was used to treat my sunken temples. I can’t say the treatment was completely painless but it was a fraction of what I had expected. It is nothing more than the ‘sharp scratch’ that Dr Nick described.

Dr Nick is obviously highly skilled and confident in his placement of hyaluronic acid and the treatment was completed in a flash – something I really appreciated as I don’t love needles and had been a little apprehensive about the procedure.

Results were immediate and continued to get better over the following weeks. That’s not to say they were more obvious, but the hyaluronic seemed to blend perfectly with my face and the skin appeared lovely and hydrated.

Since treatment, those who are closest to me and see me regularly had noticed the change (lots of ‘My God you look lovely today!!) but not once was I asked if I’d had surgery.

My husband hasn’t stopped complementing how great I look and I feel that my face is fresher than ever. I was concerned that the filler would make my face feel hard but it hasn’t. For the adjustment period of two weeks after treatment, the areas of injection were a little firmer but soon the treated areas felt like the rest of my face. I was lucky enough for treatment to result in no bruising or swelling although it had been explained to me that this can sometimes happen.

At the time if writing this it has been 3 months since placement of the injections and the result is just as beautiful as when it was first completed. Morpheus8 made me look younger!

My Morpheus 8 experience at Look Lovely London

Wow- What a treatment! I feel like my face has literally morphed back to how I looked 5 years ago!

So let me talk you through my experience of the Morpheus 8 at Look Lovely London. When I first read the press releases about this new treatment, I dismissed it as hype, and I assumed the results were exaggerated. High-profile people like Amanda Holden, Faye Tozer and Kim Kardashian have had this treatment and swear by it and then Judy Murray seemed to have a face transformation after three sessions. Although this treatment sounds like a super-duper vibrator (you have to laugh at the name!), I still had hope if it could change Judy’s leathery skin appearance then it could certainly help me!

So, when I looked in the mirror what did I see? Crepey skin, sagging around the jaw line and loose skin around the neck. In my early 50’s, and after many holidays with a lack of sunscreen (I know- my bad!), I knew I needed a lift and some improvement in the quality and texture of my skin. I wanted to avoid needles- so toxins like anti-wrinkle or man-made filer substances – and I also wanted natural and visible results.

With the wish to avoid more invasive surgery down-the-line I plucked up the courage, picked up the phone and made my booking at Look Lovely London. I was nervous on arrival as I heard it was a device with 24 needles which would be stamped across my face. However, on walking through the door I was warmly greeted by Katrina at front desk, given a cup of tea and then had my face generously lathered with a numbing cream. A cling film mask was them placed over my face and I was ready to relax and allow the numbing magic to work.

Prior to the treatment it was explained to me the Morpheus 8 is a revolutionary skin resurfacer as well as tightener. The results are achieved by a head that is attached to a machine that would insert fine needles, within a millisecond, into my skin as well as delivering a warm thermal energy. So, what does this do? The small square stamps that move across the face creates microtrauma to differing layers of the skin, which in turn stimulates your own body to start the repair process to produce more collagen. Collagen is essential in the skin as it provides structure, elasticity and ‘snap-back’ of the skin. The skin tightens and lifts reducing wrinkles and improving in texture. The reason our faces can ‘collapse’ in our 50’s is because we lose 1 % of collagen a year. So, our faces are well and truly shifting south by then! The Morpheus after three treatments can reverses this.

The other benefit of the Morpheus 8, which very few other t treatments offer is fat reduction and recontouring. I have developed the dreaded fatty pouch under my chin and a bit of wobble around the sides of my face (horrible jowls), so I was looking forward to sharpening my jaw line and shifting the stubborn pocket of fat. The device is powerful enough to offer this type of tightening so for me as soon as I lay on the couch ready to start it was a no-brainer. Melissa, my favourite therapist carried out the treatment and it only took 25 minutes!

She started with the fat contouring first as she said this was a deeper more penetrating procedure initially. I braced myself as she began with a handle that looked like a gun, but to my relief could hardly feel the nozzle delivering its magic. I won’t lie- there were a few stingy shots but in general it was very comfortable. Melissa talked me through what was going on during the procedure and she moved quickly across my face. There was no lingering in any one area. She pulled on my lose skin areas and then delivered the energy. I felt a tightening straight away. Once she had treated the fatty areas with contouring, she them moved over the whole area of my face with a lighter treatment. I was told this ‘resurfaces’ my skin and to combat those pesky wrinkles around my cheeks and all the way up to my temples. Again, the shots where surprisingly comfortable. As I struggle with heavy upper eye lids called ‘hooding’ she offered me an add-on targeted eye treatment to lift and tighten the upper brow area, which I jumped at the chance to have. I had toyed with the idea of a blepharoplasty in the past, but I was told the Morpheus 8 was the next best thing if I wanted to avoid the knife.

So, 25 minutes later I was hopping off the couch with a rosy face and only one small bruise around my left eye. My skin felt like I have been slapped or had sun burn but this cleared within 45 minutes. The team gave me a calming cleanser to use at home included in the package and my only struggle was not being allowed to wear makeup for 48-72 hours. This is because the microneedle puncture sites need time to heal over. That didn’t stop me heading out for a glass of wine to celebrate my new treatment journey I had embarked on.

For the first few days my skin felt dry, tight, and slightly rough but there was no real down-time. I slapped on tons of nice moisturising cream and eagerly awaited the results. Within 10 days my skin felt baby-smooth, tighter and I saw improvements with my jaw line and lifting of the jowls. Once I feel my new silky-smooth skin, I was on the phone to the clinic booking in my next treatment. I’ve already recommended the Morpheus at Look Lovely London to three of my friends. One of my girlfriends who rushed in after me had bad acne scarring, and she’s seen a big improvement due to the resurfacing.

So overall- 10/10 for a non-invasive treatment and the results are continuing to evolve as it can take up to 4 months for the collagen to fully form. I’m looking and feeling better each month and the service, treatment and follow-up with Look Lovey London has been fabulous!

My Sculptra® Experience at Look Lovely London

Sculptra® is growing in popularity here at the clinic. How are our clients finding the experience? One of our long-standing clients gave us her account of her experience

“I’ve been going to LLL for over 10 years now so when I heard about a collagen-stimulating treatment that would revitalise my skin, volumise hollow areas and improve my skin texture I had to try it out.

Typically I love anti wrinkle injections and Profhilo but in my early 60’s I’ve noticed my skin has become more crepey and loose, there’s more sagging, slight jowls and overall, I can see that my face dropping south! My jawline has also lost contour so I was pleased to hear that Sculptra® could be added to this area to improve skin thickness and help give more definition to my jawline.

I wanted to go for an option that would give me gradual results where my family and my daughters wouldn’t immediately guess. I didn’t want to be blown up with fillers and be transformed overnight. I just wanted friends to comment that I was looking fresher and to feel more confident about my slightly ageing skin. Sculptra® has been safely used in the UK since 2004 and Davina told me the product she was injecting was an improved formula that has recently been brought back to the UK. For all these reasons I decided that it sounded like a good option for me.

The treatment

I was told I would need 2 treatments 4 weeks apart and only around the 2/3 month mark would I notice a change and a lift to my skin. If I loved the results, I could even go for a 3^rd treatment, but I was initially told to try the two sessions and to see how my skin responded.

I popped on her couch after the team applied some numbing cream on my face. The procedure was comfortable and involved around 4 injections on either side of my face. The clear liquid product which is like water was gently spread underneath my skin using a bendy blunt tube called a cannula, which I was told keeps the procedure safe.

It took about 20 minutes to place the product under the skin in the sagging areas. My face was numb from the cream and the product also has a local anaesthetic in it, which meant I was so comfortable I found myself chatting away. I barely felt a thing!

Davina then gave my face a lovely massage to disperse the product further.

I was told to carry out this massage myself for the next 5 days, 5 times a day for 5 minutes. I thought I would forget to do it but actually, I enjoyed giving myself that gentle massage over the week as I felt it was revitalising my skin even more. There’s no downtime with the treatment and all I had after the first session was a small bruise on my jawline that cleared within 4 days.

When I left the treatment room my face was glowing and already felt plumped up with my skin feeling smoother and slightly tighter. Davina told me over the next few days the volume may reduce a little as the liquid spread into the tissue further, but to give it time as then the product starts to stimulate my skin’s own production of collagen. I was told to be patient as the magic starts to happen after my second treatment 4 weeks later.

My second treatment was as easy as the first and I noticed a difference around 10 days later with my skin feeling smoother, healthier and volume appearing in my hollowed-out areas in the mid-cheek.

I am now patiently waiting for the 2 months to go by so I can see the fuller effects. It was a great experience at Look Lovely London and I’m telling all my friends in their 50-60’s to try it out. Profhilo – Does it actually work?

I have to admit that as someone who loves the general maintenance anti wrinkle injections (and maybe a touch of filler here and there) I wasn’t sold on the idea of Profhilo. I love the instant results a treatment can provide, so the thought of waiting some 6 weeks for the final results to take effect… Well, I’d rather just get some filler!

Sadly, filler doesn’t fix everything.

It wasn’t until I had a conversation with our Aesthetic Practitioner Melissa, that I became aware that the lower part of my face was starting to get ‘crepey’ – that so-called nice word practitioners use to describe skin that lacks firmness, and is wrinkled in texture. Literally like crepe paper… I mean honestly, it’s a tough pill to swallow!

I use high end skincare at home and cover my skin in layers of makeup every day, so I wasn’t really looking at my skin too closely. I guess the general perception as you get older is to focus more on anti wrinkle and filler – and not so much on the actual rejuvenation of your skin. Enter Profhilo – A product that promises to improve skin texture – as long as you’re willing to wait. But does it actually work and does it take that long?

Let’s keep this very real. Modifying my skin texture wasn’t really on my treatment to-do list and it wasn’t until my 4^th week in clinic that I noticed Profhilo had developed a bit of a cult following. Traditionally used on the face, it’s becoming increasingly popular as a treatment for the neck and even hands. A couple of patients (you know who you are!) reported back on almost ‘instant’ results and were booking in for other areas of their bodies to be treated. One patient in particular looked more refreshed less than 48 hours after her treatment! It made me curious.

Getting Advice

If you’ve had an appointment with Dr Davina, you’ll know that she isn’t one to agree to a treatment just because you want it – there needs to be a reason and a good one at that. In fact, the whole culture at Look Lovely London is built on this principle. So when Davina herself said she was willing to take me on my journey into rejuvenation, I knew it was something I wanted to try (I suspect my ‘crepey’ situation might’ve been the topic of discussion on the group chat! 😆)

I won’t bore you with the technicalities of how this particular magic is performed. I just want to share the results.

Is my skin firmer? Yes
Is it a better texture than before? Yes
Does my skin glow? Yes
Have I knocked 5 years off the age of my skin? Without a doubt
Do I still want my routine anti wrinkle and filler? Of course! 😊

More importantly my skin feels…plumper! I’ve been tutted at for using this word in clinic, but there’s no better word to describe it! It’s 100% more plump and cushiony.
