We’ve all seen press coverage debating whether certain celebrities have had surgery or not. Whether it’s lip fillers, Botox® or surgical treatments such as breast enlargement or a tummy tuck, those celebrities certainly know how to keep journalists guessing.
One of the most common non-surgical procedures which many celebrities choose to undergo (whether they admit to it or not) is lip fillers. When we think about lip fillers, we would be forgiven for immediately thinking about some of the more drastic celebrity transformations. We are all too familiar with those famous celebrity pictures and witnessed what can happen if you go too far with lip fillers.
Let’s remind ourselves that these are usually pretty extreme cases and that when administered correctly, lip fillers can transform a person’s face while keeping it looking natural, too. Many celebrities have regular lip filler treatments but manage to keep it a secret from the press. Some say that’s the result of having good PR representation. We say it’s probably because they’ve found a practitioner who knows how to create a natural-looking youthful pout.
But what are lip fillers? Are they safe? How are they administered? Let’s take a look at the most commonly asked questions about lip fillers.
What are lip fillers made of?
Patients usually tend to want to know, and for good reason. They want to know that what they are putting in their body is safe. Here at Look Lovely London, we always talk our patients through the process during the consultation. We explain exactly what will be involved and how the lip fillers will be administered. You will have plenty of opportunities to ask any questions you may have and we are experienced in working with nervous first-timers.
Lip fillers are also known as dermal fillers, and these are produced by a number of different brands. At Look Lovely London, we use Emervel and Restylane dermal fillers, which are both sophisticated brands designed to give the most natural-looking result. The filler itself is made from a sugar gel, known as hyaluronic acid, which is also found in human collagen.
How can you avoid the dreaded ‘trout pout’?
Our number-one rule at Look Lovely London is simple: the lower lip should always be fuller than the upper lip. If the upper lip matches the fullness of the lower lip then you’re entering ‘trout pout’ territory, which we are firmly against. We believe that full pouty lips can look sexy and glamorous but that when they are overdone, it can actually have the opposite effect. All of our patients have total confidence in us that we will never allow them to leave our clinic looking anything other than completely natural.
We usually use just 1ml of dermal filler on the top and bottom lip. We believe this is the correct amount if you’re after a natural look.
How quickly do lip fillers work?
When you first have your lip fillers administered, you may well experience some swelling over the following 48 hours. There may also be some small bruising. Once the lips have settled, the end result will be seen in approximately two weeks after your treatment. After you’ve had the treatment done, the effects can last between six and twelve months.
Are there any side effects?
As mentioned above, swelling is the main side effect associated with lip fillers but this usually settles down within four to five days after treatment. When you leave the clinic, our team will give you an ice pack to apply to the lips. This will help to minimise any bruising and swelling.
We hope that this guide has answered any initial questions you might have about lip fillers. When administered correctly and safely, lip fillers can have a huge impact on a person’s self-confidence. Lip fillers turn thinner, disappearing lips into a natural and sexy fuller pout, helping to frame the face and take years off your appearance.
