How does Microneedling work?
Microneedling creates controlled micro-needle punctures into the skin’s surface. This stimulates the body’s healing process to rejuvenate and repair the skin. To complement and enhance the effects of Microneedling, we offer a mesotherapy cocktail to infuse into the skin after the treatment.
Pioneered by the French Physician Dr Pistor in 1952, mesotherapy is a non-surgical, relatively painless procedure that is used to treat a wide range of conditions, delivering a cocktail of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, directly into the skin.
Once the small puncture sites are created in the skin by the Microneedling device the mesotherapy cocktail containing antioxidants can then enter and penetrate the skin more effectively to tackle pigmentation, help hydration and promote firming and tightening.
Uneven skin tone, such as age spots, melasma and sun damage will become lighter, boosting your confidence in your skin.
What to expect from your Microneedling & Mesotherapy Facial?
If deeper levels are treated, a topical anaesthetic cream can be used before the treatment, so discomfort, if any, is minimal. The most sensitive areas tend to be the forehead and upper lip. Redness (mild to moderate) can be seen for up to 24-48 hours. Skin peeling and dryness can rarely occur for up to 7 days (in 90% of clients, redness reduces within 1-2 hours). SPF 30+ must be applied post-treatment.
Any heat treatments, including steam rooms, saunas, jacuzzis, and the gym must be avoided for 24-48 hours. Stop the use of any products containing active ingredients (Retinol) for approx. 48-hours. The best results are seen with a series of 4-6 sessions spaced 2 to 6 weeks apart depending upon skin concern.
There is a continuous and progressive improvement over time in skin texture, firmness and elasticity. The complexion becomes more even and brighter. If combined with specific medical-grade creams, that we can recommend at the clinic, results can be enhanced.

Our Microneedling pen is a medical-grade CE certified device and is far more advanced than MTS (Dermaroller Type needling). Clinical studies have shown that AutoMTS (Automatic Micro-Needle Therapy Systems) to be more effective than other treatments like laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels with far less downtime.
We only ever use single disposable needle cartridges keeping the procedure sterile and hygienic. Our highly skilled aesthetic practitioners will be carrying out the treatment making the process as safe and painless as possible.

I’ve had 2 children both delivered by C-section. My youngest is now 8. Over the years it bothered me my c-section scar still looked deep and prominent with stretch marks and looser skin in the area. I felt self-conscious about the lower abdomen area and always covered it.
We recommended 6 sessions of Microneedling in the area to promote healing, to reduce the elevation of the scar and to lighten it. By carrying out Microneedling over the abdomen area 4 weeks apart the skin became smoother, tighter and with improved elasticity.
Jackie’s scar was visibly reduced
Her skin felt firmer and tighter
Her stretch marks were improved
Her skin texture felt smoother
I’m delighted with the results. I thought after 8 years I’d be stuck with my scar and stretch marks. Trying Microneedling was the last resort after trying numerous creams and other skin tightening treatments. I’m really impressed with the outcome and I feel more confident- and even my husband has noticed.
Microneedling & Mesotherapy Facial FAQs
Microneedling is a procedure designed to enhance and improve the quality of the skin. It works by activating the body’s natural regenerative processes to stimulate the skin’s collagen and elastin production. Very tiny needles are used to penetrate the layers of the skin vertically. These micro-punctures cause localised and controlled damage without affecting the epidermis. The skin is rejuvenated, and the treatment can help clear old acne scars, active acne and pigmentation.
We’ve all heard of the term ‘micro-needling’, a lot of clinics and salons still provide Microneedling for skin rejuvenation using traditional ‘derma roller’ devices. Technology has thankfully improved with the invention of the medical ‘Microneedling pen’, which is a much more superior and effective treatment method for skin rejuvenation.
Both Microneedling Pen and Dermarollers are forms of Microneedling used to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin. However, Microneedling causes controlled micro-injuries to the chosen skin depth. This stimulates the body to produce collagen to remodel the damaged area, which then rejuvenates the skin.
With Microneedling pens, we can customise treatments by the needle depth, whereas the Dermarollers can only reach a single depth.
The benefit of adjusting needle depth allows us to cater to different areas of the face that require different penetration levels for best results. Microneedling pens can quickly treat those hard to reach areas such as around the eyes, nose and upper lip, whereas it is more difficult to reach these areas with traditional rollers. Microneedling pens are more comfortable for the patient as the needles can penetrate the skin vertically. Whereas with Dermarollers, the needles penetrate the skin at an angle causing more chance of ‘tears’ through the skin, leading to more pain and recovery time.
Directly after treatment, initial skin tightening and pore reduction can be seen immediately. However, you won’t see your final Microneedling results until at least four to six weeks post-treatment. Both collagen and elastin production are accelerated, but it still takes your body time to produce new, strong, healthy collagen.
Microneedling works by creating microscopic punctures in the skin. While it is not overly painful, it can be uncomfortable when targeting the deeper dermis. Our practitioners use a topical numbing cream which makes the treatment a lot more comfortable. Some patients say they do not feel the need for the numbing cream if a more superficial treatment is recommended. If you are used to the treatment, it can even be a relaxing experience.
The frequency of Microneedling treatments vary. When aiming for skin rejuvenation, you may repeat the treatment every 2 to 4 weeks for 3 sessions. When targeting more complex skin concerns such as acne scarring, or deep lines/wrinkles treatments may be repeated every 4 weeks for 4-6 sessions.
As long as Microneedling is done properly, the only common side effects that you may experience are redness, dryness and mild inflammation. On occasion, you may experience some mild swelling, pinpoint bleeding and skin irritation which will normally subside in 24-48 hours.
Mesotherapy is a non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatment aimed at diminishing problem areas on the face or body. Mesotherapy can be used for face, neck and under eye rejuvenation. A cocktail of vitamins and antioxidants are administered directly into the skin. This nourishes and rejuvenates the skin by promoting the production of collagen and elastins which leads to healthy glowing skin. At Look Lovely London we offer Microneeding and a mesotherapy cocktail together offering a unique and highly effective treatment for skin healing.
Once the course of treatment is completed the results can last for up to 12-18 months. You can extend these results for longer when good skincare is used. Our practitioners will advise you on a suitable plan to maintain healthy skin.
