What is Sculptra?
Sculptra has been relaunched back to the UK with a new and improved formula that tackles loose, crepey skin. The treatment will improve your skin texture by activating collagen production and revitalising the skin’s structural foundation. The natural-looking results last for at least 25 months from the last treatment and gradually boosts your skin quality and thickness.
It is the original collagen stimulator that restores the skin’s barrier gradually providing lasting results for up to 25 months.
Treatment Overview

What are the Benefits of Sculptra?
Numerous clinical trials have shown patient satisfaction at a high with 86% still feeling the benefits with smoother healthier-looking skin at 25 months post-treatment.
Within 2/3 months visibly improved skin with volume restoration, tightness, reduced wrinkles and fine lines are noted.
Sculptra is one of the longest-lasting aesthetic treatments in the industry with little to no downtime.
The results are gradual and natural for those wanting subtle changes with skin revitalisation.
This treatment is perfect for patients struggling with looser, saggy, ageing skin in their mid 40’s onwards. The treatment will stimulate and restore collagen tackling fine lines, poor texture, early jowling and creating a tighter more lifted look.
How does Sculptra work?
Sculptra contains Poly-L-Lactic acid which is found naturally occurring in our body in muscles. The Poly-L-Lactic acid once injected gently restores the skin’s structure and barrier by stimulating collagen and elastin production. When the product is injected it creates a gentle inflammatory process which then starts a healing cascade with the production of collagen in the skin.
Collagen is so important to the skin as it helps to maintain the skin’s shape whilst keeping it smooth and hydrated. Collagen declines at 1% per year in the skin as we age. As the collagen reduces in the skin the inner structure weakens, reducing its ability to maintain elasticity and moisture. This weakened inner structure can lead to lines, wrinkles, depression in the face and folds.
Having a Sculptra treatment naturally restores your skin’s own collagen production giving you a more youthful-looking complexion renewing the skin, restoring volume, and smoothing wrinkles. The results are natural and gradual developing over a few months- no one needs to guess you’ve had a treatment but everyone will comment on how well you look!
What to expect from my treatment?
After a thorough consultation with the doctor or nurse to ensure your skin is suitable for the treatment by assessing skin laxity, you will have numbing cream applied for 15 minutes. This makes the treatment very comfortable.
Your injector will then mark the areas that need to be targeted which will include crepey areas around the cheek, loose skin around the jawline and sunken areas often seen in the mid-face area.
The clear product which is made up with sterile water will be gently injected into the face in different injection points. The product is also made up with a local anaesthetic to help with comfort.
Once the product has been widely dispersed beneath the skin your practitioner will then firmly massage your face for around 5 minutes to ensure the treatment starts to mesh with your own skin and soft tissue. This starts the inflammatory process that causes collagen production and tightening.
Your skin will feel plumped up and will be slightly warm to the touch and may look red. The plump look will soon settle once the product which is fluid clears from the skin and goes deeper within. The redness and heat will clear within a couple of hours.
Results are gradual and you may only see a minimal change after the first treatment, however, we recommend 2/3 treatments 4 weeks apart. Note the plumpness seen after the treatment will return a few months later, once your own collagen is stimulated.
When you return for your second treatment your practitioner will assess your skin and then repeat the treatment.
Around one month after this second treatment, the magic starts to happen with resorted volume, elasticity and reduction in fine lines. Results will continue to improve up to the 6-month mark. Patience is a virtue and although Sculptra improves the skin in a gradual process it is well worth the wait!
If you are particularly struggling with ageing skin your practitioner may recommend a third treatment but this will be assessed on a patient-to-patient basis.
After each treatment, you will be asked to firmly massage your face for 5 minutes 2/3 times a day for 14 days. This will help the product disperse and start to stimulate revitalisation.

Sculptra Injections FAQs
Sculptra is one of the longest-lasting aesthetic treatments available in the industry, with visible improved results seen at 25 months after your last session. This stimulating treatment will encourage your skin to produce its own collagen. Therefore, although the actual product injected breaks down, you will be left with your own boosted collagen which will have long-lasting results increasing elasticity and smoothness of the skin as well as tightening saggy areas and improving volume.
As with all injectable treatments, there is a risk of bruising and swelling however this usually only lasts a few days. We use a cannula to administer some of the treatment. A cannula is a soft bendy tube with a blunt end, therefore fewer injections are needed which minimises trauma or bruising to the skin. In most cases, you can get back to your normal activities straight after the treatment.
Some patients reported lumps or nodule formation beneath the skin when the older Sculptra product was used around 10-15 years ago, however with the new and improved product launched this year this side effect has been greatly reduced. With the new way of reconstituting the water-based treatment less than 3 % of patients have reported small lumps. In most cases, these lumps disappear within a few months and are not visible.
Sculptra is also safer than dermal filers being a water-based solution therefore the risk of vessel blockage and skin changes are barely ever seen.
As Sculptra is a unique product that is collagen-stimulating it is safe to have these treatments at the same time as fillers and anti-wrinkle. This is because they are often administered in different areas of the face and work in different ways so the treatments can be given in synergy and offer fabulous results.
If you wish to have Sculptra first we then ask you to wait 2 -4 weeks before proceeding with your filler treatment to allow the skin to settle and the product to disperse.
Sculptra is made of Poly-L-Lactic acid which is found naturally in the muscles of your body. It is a clear fluid made up of water that has a thin consistency. When injected into the skin it is a potent collagen stimulator. It will gradually encourage your skin to produce its own collagen creating a smoother, tighter, more healthy skin barrier. The final results can take 3-4 months offering a gradual improvement. Sculptra is perfect for the more ageing skin and those wanting natural and subtle results for 25 months or more.
Dermal filler is made up of hyaluronic acid which is the main component found in human collage. It is a thick gel solution and when injected into depressed and grooved areas in the face it will instantly lift the area, as it mimics your body’s own collagen. It will not stimulate your skin to produce new collagen.
As results are instant it is often the preferred choice for younger patients, however, treatments only last for up to 18 months.
Sculptra is injected into the loose sagging skin areas around the cheeks, jawline and the sides of the chin. It can also be injected into the temple area, under-eye area and central cheek area to help volumise depressed areas.
Sculptra is not used to treat the forehead, nose, lips or central chin area. These areas are more commonly treated using a dermal filler or anti-wrinkle injections.
